Abstract

Coping is the effort that a person makes in stressful situations. In hospital contexts, it is necessary to have instruments that allow to briefly evaluate the coping style of each subject, with the aim of developing timely interventions. In the present manuscript, 3 coping instruments were examinated, Ways of coping, Multidimensional-multisituational scale of coping style and COPE 28 for the elaboration of the Brief cope checklist, which was validated by 15 experts in behavioral medicine. The result was a checklist composed of 10 items, 5 directed at the emotion-centered coping style and 5 directed at the problem-centered coping style. The use of this instrument is simple because of the easy understanding and brief application time.
