Magical Thinking and Attitudes towards Science of Psychology Students of Asunción of the 2018/2019 cycle

Abstract

This research describes, compares and relates magical thinking and attitudes towards science in psychology students from Asunción city. The sample consisted of 173 persons, who were selected in a non-probabilistic way. The Magic Thought Scale (EP12) and the Protocol of Attitudes Related to Science (PAC) were applied in digital and physical format. The data collection was carried out between the months of March 2018 and April 2019. The results indicate that psychology students have positive attitudes towards science and value the contribution it makes to humanity. However, some characteristics related to magic thinking are also present. It is recommended to give greater emphasis to the scientific contents of the psychology career curriculum and its opposition to irrational and pseudoscientific magical thinking, fostering a critical attitude of future professionals; and enhance similar to this research, by expanding the sample.
