Abstract

Stress is a common problem in developed societies, related to psychological distress and general health problems. Creative Relaxation Training can be a useful and efficient strategy to increase self-control in stressful situations. We studied a sample of 128 subjects, aged 18-90 years, who participated in a creative relaxation course. Simple instruments were designed for the evaluation of process and results, validated on a sample of n=377, showing good psychometric properties. Participants showed a reduction of stress, anxiety and depression symptoms, with an effect size between moderate and high (0.37<d<1.14), and a high degree of satisfaction with the process (7.1/10). Benefits were superior for women, regardless of age. The results suggest that Creative Relaxation Training can be a short, efficient, accessible technique for all people and all ages.
