Reasons for tobacco consumption by hospital workers on northern border

Abstract

The objetive of the study was to know the ralation between the reasons to smkoke and tobacco consumption. The Scale of Reasons for Smoking was applied (SMS-18; Russell, 1979). The sample was randomly selected, was conformed for 310 participants from a public hospital. Consumption sometime in life was found of 62.9% on average they consumed 4.25 cigarretes/day, the psychological, social and physical reasons presented positive and significant correlation with tobacco consumption one normal day, with tobacco consumption over the last seven days and the tobacco consumption over last fifteen days (p < .05).
