Risk of road accidents related to alcoholism in university students
Abstract
The present investigation is of a correlational, transversal type, whose objective is to analyze the relationship of alcoholism with the risk of road accidents in university students. Sample: 194 students from a public university in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico who drank alcohol at least once in their lives. Instruments: validated AUDIT instrument, measures alcohol dependence, consists of 10 items and road accident risk test, contains 20 questions; The relationship between both instruments was established. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the data analysis. 79.9% of participants were at risk of alcoholism; 27.8% showed dependence on alcohol; 6.1% of respondents presented medium and high risk of road accidents. Pearson correlation between variables (alcoholism with risk of road accidents and with sex) with statistical significance (p = .050 and p = .000 respectively). Some results coincided with those of other researchers. Alcoholism is related to road accidents in university students.
