PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF THE CHILD BEHAVIOR CHECKLIST (CBCL/6-18) IN PARENTS OF MEXICAN ADOLESCENTS
Abstract
A valid and reliable evaluation of adolescents' adaptation is central to a primary and secondary intervention. Parents become valuable informants that complement their adolescents' self-perception, contributing to a comprehensive evaluation. The objective of this study was to analyze the factor structure and internal consistency of CBCL / 6- 18. An instrumental study was carried out. 170 parents of adolescent students of public secondary schools in Mexico City voluntarily participated. A factor analysis using the Maximum Likelihood method was performed, as well as, an analysis of its internal consistency. CBCL/6-18 showed an eight factors structure with 62 items presenting adequate indexes of validity and reliability. These findings indicate that it could be used to assess the perception of parents regarding their adolescents' adaptation. The limitations of this study do not allow generalizing the results. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct other studies with other samples.
