“CHARACTERIZATION OF DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMATOLOGY IN NON-INSTITUTIONALIZED ADULTS OF THE CITY OF CELAYA
Abstract
Depression is perhaps the most common cause of emotional distress and significantly decreases quality of life in older adults. A descriptive study was conducted with a group of 204 older adults from the city of Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, who were given the Depression Scale of the Center for Epidemiological Studies (CES–D) of 20 reagents with the intention of describing depressive symptoms mostly perceived. To facilitate the analysis, the model developed by Aguilera, Carreño and Juárez (2004) of four factors based on the original
Radlolff model was used; the results show the high prevalence of depressive symptoms oriented towards negative affection rather than the positive affection factor, the interpersonal relationship factor and the factor associated with corporeity. Finally, the results were linked to the presence of depressive symptoms such as anhedonia, dysphore, tragic thinking and suicidal ideation.
