PSYCHOSOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL CARE OF THE NURSE TO THE ELDERLY WITH DEMENTIA LIVING IN HOMES FOR THE AGED: SOME REFLECTIONS

Abstract

Introduction. In the context of the aging of the Brazilian population, without doubt, the Homes for the Aged (HFA) occupies a necessary and relevant space in the assistance to the elderly. These places are sought after for the care of the elderly with or without dementia. Objetive. Reflect on the care of nurses to elderly people with dementia living in HFA. Methods. Qualitative, descriptive study classified in the following stages: 1. Search for nursing diagnosis and Survey of bibliographic material; 2.The search took place through the BIREME portal. Results and discussion. Theoretical categories were reached: nursing care for the psychosocial needs of the elderly person with impaired memory and nursing care for the psycho-spiritual needs of the elderly person with impaired memory. Final considerations. To widen the gaze before the elderly person, seen not only as a bio-psychosocial being, above all including the spiritual need, requires to undress of any prejudices.
