Social support and safe sex behavior in adolescents
Abstract
Introduction: Adolescence is a developmental process in which biological, physical and psychological changes occur, being considered a vulnerable population not to practice safe sex behavior, directly affecting their well-being. Social support is a factor that is presented as a protector against the threats experienced by the adolescent. Objective: To determine the relationship between social support and safe sex behavior in adolescents. Material and methods: This study is of a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional type, with a non-probabilistic sampling for convenience, in which 133 adolescents with ages between 15 and 19 years participated, a personal data card, the Questionnaire of Social Support and the Safe Sex Behavior Questionnaire. Results: It was evidenced that the female sex is the one that perceives the greatest social support and therefore the one that puts into practice a better safer sex behavior. Discussion: support and safe sex behavior are important aspects to identify adolescent sexual health. It is very important to know that social support has a significant influence on the safe sex behavior of adolescents. Conclusion: social support plays a significant role in adolescents since it is observed that the greater the social support there is a safer sex behavior.
