Sexual compulsivity in young adults
Abstract
Introduction: Practices related to sexuality require attitudes, knowledge and social skills; that if they are not managed under control there is the possibility that having risky sexual behaviors that increase the presence of sexual compulsivity in young people. Objective: To describe sexual compulsivity in young adults from Guanajuato, Mexico. Methodology: Quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive study with n = 266 young university students from the state of Guanajuato., the Inventory of Hypersexual Behavior adapted to Spanish by Ballester-Arnal (α = .89) was used to measure sexual compulsivity, adhering to the ethical and legal aspects in terms of research. Results: Population between 20 and 25 years of age, 54.9% were female, 99.2% single, 68.8% have active sex life and from 1 to 12 sexual partners during the last year, 25% had an occasional partner during the last month; 4.9% had sexual compulsivity. Conclusion: The study shows that people make use of sex deliberately, a situation that increases risky sexual behaviors characterized by compulsive behavior; allowing to expand the field of action for nursing through the provision of primary health care services (prevention, promotion and specific protection) in responsible sexual health care.
