Experience of care in the elderly: Narrative of nursing care
Abstract
Introduction: Nursing is in constant interaction with the environment, the family and the patient, where it is necessary for the professional to develop skills to provide comprehensive care, in order to seek the well-being of the person. Objective: Describe a unique case on home care for an older adult. Method: A single case study was carried out. The analysis was performed on an adult older than 79 years. According to the state of health, the older adult presented rheumatoid arthritis, arterial hypertension and heart problems. For the case description, a narrative of care and the use of knowledge patterns proposed by Barbara Carper, 1999 were used. Observation, physical examination and the field diary were used to collect the information. Results: A real care history was obtained between the nurse and an older adult. In this history of care, safe and quality care was provided by the nursing professional to the person. In care actions, an attempt was made to establish an empathic relationship, and these actions adhered to ethical principles. Conclusions: The shared experience between the nursing professional and the person receiving care not only manifests an interaction, but also a process of empathy is experienced, where the ability to recognize emotions in real situations of problems of Health.
