Motives for Drug Use in the Homosexual Population
Abstract
Introduction: Drug use in the homosexual population represents a public health problem in Mexico and the world, since it directly influences the morbidity and mortality of the population, and the consequences of drug use, such as social, family, psychological and economic problems, must also be considered. Objective: understand the reasons for drug use in the young adult homosexual population. Methodology: The study is qualitative, from which discourse analysis was obtained and grounded theory was applied to the data. The sampling is purposive, the sample is made up of homosexuals who use drugs and meet the inclusion criteria. Valid informed consent was obtained prior to the participation of homosexual persons. Results and Conclusions: Four categories were obtained; likewise, the symbolic paradigm of the origin of drug use in young adult homosexuals by means of affluences, family judgments and social foundations and foundations expressed by significant meetings, experiencing pleasurable sensations, lack of communication and family example and/or sense of belonging.
