Nursing intervention for metabolic control in people with type 2 Diabetes: preliminary results
Abstract
Introduction: During the last decade, Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) has represented a worldwide problem with a high rate of morbidity and mortality in adults between the ages of 20 and 70 years. Objective: to analyze if the nursing intervention "I decide" favors metabolic control in adults with Type 2 Diabetes. Method: This research is quasi-experimental, the sample consisted of 51 participants who were selected for convenience and they were randomly assigned to the intervention group (28) and the control group (23) after signing the informed consent. A personal factors card was used and clinical and biochemical measurements were made. The intervention program was organized in 5 educational sessions. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results: showed that glycated hemoglobin had a significant decrease after the nursing intervention (Z = -2.48, p = .013). Conclusions: the nursing intervention was effective in reducing glycated hemoglobin.
