Intervention in parents to promote self-efficacy in communication about sexuality: preliminary results

Abstract

Introduction: Self-efficacy in assertive communication allows parents to maintain and continue a conversation with their children about sexuality issues. Objective: the objective of the study was to propose an educational nursing intervention to parents to promote their self-efficacy in communicating about sexuality with their children. Method: It was a quasi-experimental study. The study was carried out in two public educational institutions in the state of Morelia, Michoacán, with the participation of 27 parents with children enrolled in the fourth grade of primary school. To measure selfefficacy, an adaptation of the general self-efficacy scale and the scale of factors for communication about sexuality was carried out. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics for sociodemographic and inferential variables. Results: The results showed significant differences in self-efficacy (Z = -3.55, p <.001, d = 1.31) and communication (Z = -2.77, p <.05, d = 0.32). The results show that in this group of participants the intervention favors self-efficacy for communication about sexuality topics of parents with their.
